Liturgy/ Holy Hour Outline

Friday 28 May 2010

Opening Responses
Reader              We gather in prayer –
to bring the needs of the world
into the loving embrace of our God.
ALL  WE GATHER AS SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF GOD,
AS BROTHERS AND SISTERS OF THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN ABUSED,
AS BROTHERS AND SISTERS OF THOSE WHO ABUSED…
WE GATHER IN THE SOLIDARITY OF PRAYER
TO HOLD THEIR NEEDS BEFORE THE LOVING EYES OF OUR GOD.

Reader (depending on where the prayer is taking place)
We gather in this place of prayer
resting on the prayer of those who have gone before –
holding the prayer in trust for those who are to come.
or
We gather in this space, creating in your name a place of prayer,
a place of listening, of reflecting,
of encountering God’s Word
and inviting it to change our lives.
ALL WE GATHER AS SINNERS, TRUSTING IN THE LOVE AND MERCY OF GOD,
WHO CALLS US TO THIS PLACE
TO BE STILL IN HIS PRESENCE.

Reader We come to you, Lord
ALL BE PRESENT TO US.

From complacency
From ignoring your children
From hiding the truth
From protecting the guilty
From despair that things cannot change
From fear of admitting responsibility
From failure to protect
From failure to protest
From our own misplaced anger
From defensiveness
From...
MAY YOUR ANGER PURIFY US

If prayed in the evening, the liturgy/ Hour could close with the psalm for Night Prayer (87/88), Nunc Dimittis, etc. Alternatively, Psalm 129/130, Out of the Depths could be used.
