Year C: First Sunday of Lent

Second Reading: Romans 10: 8-13

Every Sunday, we stand together and say the Creed.

We say that we believe in God - Father, Son and Spirit.

St Paul insists that by confessing our Faith in Jesus as Lord and in God who raised Him from the dead, we are brought to goodness and righteousness.

(Note: righteousness brought about by faith in God is not the same things as self-righteousness!)

Can it really be that simple? Shouldn’t it all be a lot harder than that?

Well, the answer is “Yes” to the first and “No” to the second.

If we truly believe what we say, then our lives will be transformed.

How could they fail to be if we take these momentous truths to heart?

If Jesus is Lord

and if God raised Him up to New Life -

and if we are part of the same Story -

then life can’t ever be the same again.

As the song says,

“Your life will be transformed with power

by living truly in My name”

Over the coming week read the Creed.

Say it out loud if you can.

Speak the words slowly so that your heart has time to make the words its own.

When we gather to say the Creed, it is right to use “We believe...” but when you are on your own, use “I believe...”.

Make it your own personal confession of Faith to the God who loves you, to Jesus who saves you and to the Spirit who lives within you.

What does it mean for me?

What hope does the visit of Jesus to those lost in the Flood hold for you and those you love who have died?

How can you live your part in this story more fully?
